Heavy-duty self-priming pumps are the most commonly used portable pumps for dewatering and related applications.  Many of these units are trash pumps that can handle large solids up to 3”, rags and various debris.  These pumps are available from 1 1/2” through 14” discharge and are driven by either a gas or diesel engine.  Most pumps through 8” are portable and trailer mounted while larger units are skid mounted.
